Les chambres sont confortables et spacieuses.
Seulement je trouve dommage que le spa soit interdit aux enfants de moins de 16 ans à partir de 18h.
I hope I will have the chance and the money to visit again this great resort
We recently stayed at the Hotel Koh-I Nor in Val Thorens and will definitely be coming back. The location is unbeatable (ski-in/ski-out at the top of the resort), the rooms are spacious and beautifully designed, the spa and pool is excellent, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. At premium 5-star prices, many aspects deliver exactly what you’d expect from a luxury alpine property.
That said, the centralized energy management system (which controls heating, the water heater, and lighting) created a few noticeable frustrations during our stay. It repeatedly overrode the in-room settings, turning off the hot water room heater every couple of days and leaving the room feeling cold (it dropped to 17 degrees in the room regularly). We had to call the front desk multiple times to get it reset.
Additionally, at night if you need to get up to use the bathroom, the motion detector triggers two very bright lights that wake you up fully. This feature can’t be disabled without permanently removing the lighting, which isn’t practical.
I completely understand and support the hotel’s strong sustainability efforts—solar panels, automation for energy savings, etc. – and I don’t think every single guest needs fully manual, seamless control of these systems.
However, once a guest complains about the issue, the room should simply be excluded from the aggressive overrides for the duration of their stay. That small adjustment (for both the heating and the overly sensitive bright night lights) would make a big difference in guest comfort without undermining the hotel’s eco-goals.
This wasn’t a deal-breaker for us (hence our plan to return), but it’s something management could easily improve by giving the front desk or technical team clearer authority to whitelist affected rooms. A better balance between green initiatives and responsive guest service would elevate the experience even further.
Looking forward to our next visit – hopefully with this tweak in place!
Everything you need. Super friendly staff were nothing is to much trouble
See you next year
Matthias and Juliette were superstars! They were super helpful with everything. Matthias even saved the day by picking up my skis after I left them in the locker room accidently ! Also, the shuttle drivers were great; they were always on time and very friendly, which helped a lot since we don’t speak French.
Special thanks to Matthias for the clubbing and food tips. His help with reservations was a lifesaver since Val Thorens gets so busy at night. Highly recommend staying here!
From the moment we arrived, the manager at the residence reception, Matthias, along with his colleague Juliette, made us feel right at home. Both were wonderful hosts, helping us settle in smoothly and providing a wealth of information to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Matthias went above and beyond by recommending excellent restaurants for our evenings out and suggesting venues in town for a good time. Any issues we encountered during our stay were promptly sorted out by either Matthias or Juliette, which we greatly appreciated.
The apartment itself was spotless upon arrival, with both the bathroom and kitchen/main room area maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. We found fresh towels were replaced on a weekly basis throughout our stay, which was very convenient. Additionally, we were provided with a set of toiletries and bin bags upon arrival. However, only a set amount was supplied for the duration, so if these ran out, we would need to source more ourselves. This minor detail aside, the overall cleanliness of the apartment contributed greatly to our comfort.
The breakfast team was consistently attentive and ensured we were seated as soon as we arrived each morning. They were always ready to assist, taking our orders from the set menu quickly and efficiently. The breakfast itself was delicious, with a variety of options available throughout the week—from eggs cooked to your preference, to a classic English breakfast, fresh fruit, and buttery croissants. Their warm service was a lovely way to start each day.
The shuttle taxi service offered by the residence was outstandingly efficient and an absolute lifesaver during our stay. As a beginner skier, ski-in/ski-out was a bit tricky for me, but the shuttle made getting to and from the slopes hassle-free. It was also extremely convenient for trips to the supermarket and outings to restaurants in the evenings, as well as picking us up from bars and nightclubs. I cannot stress enough how wonderful and appreciated this service was, it was truly beneficial throughout our holiday experience.
The hotel technician was very helpful in resolving initial issues within our apartment. He quickly fixed any problems we encountered and even provided us with an HDMI cable for the TV, kindly installing it for us when we found it tricky to do ourselves. This practical assistance made our stay much more comfortable.
While our experience at the Koh-i-Nor Residence was overwhelmingly positive, there was one downside: our room did not have an accessible iron upon arrival or at any point during our stay, which was both unfortunate and a bit frustrating. However, it’s worth noting that a laundry service is available, where you can have your clothes washed and ironed within 48 hours.
Overall, our stay at the Koh-i-Nor Residence in Val Thorens was truly enjoyable, thanks to the attentive staff, excellent breakfast, and convenient amenities. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-serviced base for a ski holiday in the Alps.
