L'Alpe d'Huez
Visiting l’Alpe d’Huez
Alpe d’Huez fully lives up to its name during the summer season, welcoming holidaymakers in search of serenity away from the hustle and bustle of high-density beaches.
Located only 60 km from Grenoble, the village also delights summer travellers who come to find a different side of the mountains. The lush nature welcomes hikers along the many trails, and lakes, for a panoramic view from the peaks or deep in the Ecrins National Park.
The region is also known for hosting glorious moments of the Tour de France and other cycling competitions throughout the season while sports enthusiasts will enjoy riding the neat winding roads or more bumpy and rocky terrains for mountain bikers
The resort also offers many thrilling discoveries or unusual activities so that everyone can indulge in their favourite pastimes in a breathtaking setting, whether a yoga session on the summit or horse riding through the valley.
The region’s dreamy sunny landscape is the perfect environment to reboot and enjoy the fresh mountain air whether in the endless great outdoors or cocooning in a few chosen spots such as the spa at the Daria-I Nor residence or the Nuxe well-being centre at Au Chamois d’Or 5* Hôtel to enhance your rest and relaxation. The latter also welcomes guests for special evenings with gourmet BBQs and rose tasting while playing a traditional game of boules.
Our dedicated teams welcome, ready to share their great local knowledge to guarantee a successful holiday during your stay in Alpe d’Huez.
THE ALPE d’HUEZ VILLAGE
The Alpe d'Huez Village
Loved for its traditional atmosphere and the charming villages down the valley, the warm and welcoming resort has preserved more than a few remarkable historical monuments: the Notre-Dame des Neiges church in a contemporary style reminiscent of Le Corbusier with its unique organ or the square tower next to the church, the original wash houses and renovated farms in the village of Huez.
The resort with easy access alternates between the more authentic charm of the Vieil-Alpe to the west and the lively Centre Jeux, to find leisure activities and high-end accommodations such as the Daria-I Nor sitting hillside. The neighbouring Bergers district to the northeast has more modern accommodations while holidaymakers also enjoy shopping at the Eclose district to the south.
A GREAT RANGE OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
CYCLING, MOUNTAIN BIKING
Cyclists ready for a challenge come to test themselves against the 21 mythical bends to finish up top with stars in their eyes. The resort is also a wonderful playground for mountain bikers thanks to the summer lifts giving easy access to many secure paths and marked trails to ride down the mountains in fun or competitive modes (sign up for the Mégavalanche race). The snow is gone leaving evergreen hills and sleek roads to explore at your own pace thanks to the various options of e-bikes on hire.
HIKING AND NATURE
Alpe d’Huez offers a good selection of historical hikes and panoramic trails (Maquis de l’Oisans) for trekking or finding some serenity by practising yoga in the middle of nature. The resort is perfect to soak in the unique sense of freedom and tranquillity offered by the surrounding nature. The Ecrins National Park and the Oisans massif to the south of the resort are wonderful places to go and meet wild animals or offer the youngest a fascinating awakening to nature.
WHITE WATER SPORTS
Come and enjoy the thrill of skimming through the waters upstream from L’Alpe d’Huez (20 min by car) to practise your favourite water sports with pleasant and friendly rides for couples or families in a canoe or paddle. Some services also offer organised road trips accompanied by local professionals, the best bet to find out all the region’s most heavenly spots.

There is nothing like the unique calm of the mountains to land your difficult puts, work on your pitching and negotiate your exits from the bunker. The golf school also offers warm-up boxes and training sessions with a certified professional (PGA France).
A PEACEFUL FAMILY HOLIDAY
